Hey, Mama, if you are in a position of starting something new, it could be a business or it could be anything really. Today's episode is going to be just what you need to hear. If we're all honest here, life and seasons are constantly changing. So this conversation really applies. To everyone and should be revisited time and time again. Maybe you're looking to start a new business. Finally pursue that side hustle you've been thinking about it's summertime, you've got more time you're ready to do that thing. Maybe you are looking at this year and you're like man, I'm not really happy with the school system and how this year panned out. With COVID and all this stuff, I'm ready to make a change. I'm ready to start homeschooling my kids. Maybe that's the new thing that you're looking to do as you look ahead to the next year. Maybe you are ready to commit to a diet or health program. You're ready to get that summer BOD in shape. Mom BOD maybe you're just ready to prioritize weekly date night when going whatever the case, there are some foundational steps that you need to get clear on before you start moving forward. And as I would tell my kids first things first movement is so valuable in life. I was at the beach this past week with my husband just for a few days we snuck away. And let me just say something I don't know. Every time we get away every time we slow down enough to just listen to hear to remove the stress and all the distractions. I'm telling you there's always some kind of beautiful breakthrough or fresh revelation, there's something good and significant that happens and a shift that takes place that actually helps propel us forward in in our life and business and our family and whatever we're pursuing. It's just so beneficial.

So that's a side note but I just want to mention that because if you are struggling with like, I don't have time to rest. I don't have time to get away with my husband for a night or two. I don't have time to take that family vacation. I want to tell you you can't afford not to because the more I learned, the more I realized the value and the significance of rest and how it actually propels you forward and serves a big purpose in your growth. So don't get confused. I'm learning this myself, but I'm telling you what you do in the downtime is just as important as what you do when you're in the midst of the game and in the hustle. So I was at the beach with my husband past few days and I was just walking on the beach and I was reminded by looking at the ocean. Like God desires movement in our life.

When you look at the ocean, there's so much activity. It's crazy. The waves are coming and rolling and crashing and there's just so much movement. Life comes in waves and although it feels way more predictable and uncomfortable than we may be desire, it is for our own good. Sometimes as moms we can feel stuck or stagnant and when there's not a lot of movement. It's like we're a pond we feel gross, we feel yuck. We have like algae growing because there's no movement and it just, it's depressing. It's depressing and maybe you need to get out of your rut and start moving and you need a fresh flow. And so just take that to the Lord and ask him to give you vision and a fresh flow. And make yourself available to let him move in and through you because we want to be a river a steady flowing stream. I know for me I would love to just be a steady beautiful Brook that's flowing and at peace and just making movement. If you have a really crazy audacious personality, maybe you want to be like the ocean full of fluctuation and adventure. Either way, need to embrace movement and growth in your life.

So today, let's talk about first things first so that whatever you are pursuing, you can number one get clarity so that you can move forward with confidence. And number two, once you have that clarity, you can commit and actually execute. That's the key thing I know for me as a mom, I'm super intentional. I have such great intentions for everything but making a happen and actually executing. That's another story. So that's where we want to get to. It's easy to write out our plans and set intentions but like I just said it's hard to take action. But if you set a strong foundation, you'll set yourself up for success and make that movement towards your goals. So as moms living with purpose, we don't want to just talk the talk we want to walk the walk.

So the first thing that we need to do or we're starting something new whenever we're starting something fresh whenever we're re committing to something is we need to know our why the Bible even talks about how important it is. We don't need to just set our goals and set our resolutions or whatever you want to call them at the first of the year. We should continually be doing this in all areas of our life.

Habakkuk 2:2 says "The Lord answered me, write the vision make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it."

We need to be intentional. Write it down, have a clear vision know our why. You've got to know your why and really first is just ask God about everything. You are in a partnership with God. You're in a covenant relationship with the Holy Spirit as a kingdom entrepreneur, so don't ever forget that he is key to the whole process. What he says matters more than what our heart desires. Ultimately, we want to pray that like God, make my desires, your desires and as I seek you and know you, make my heart reflect your heart for my life because your intentions are always good for me and I can trust you that you know best no matter what.

When I first started business, gosh, I don't even know how many years ago I had three kids. I lived in Nashville, Tennessee at the time. I was in a very settled season and at the time we really needed some income. I was wanting to create income I felt like I could do it. I wanted to but if you've ever been in a place where you're like what can I do from home, I've got kids, I need to work from home. I want to create some income and you've looked on the internet you'll see that there are endless possibilities. There are a million ways you can go about it. But you want to do what resonates with you what fits you are what fits your family. And so I remember at that time just looking through lists on the internet of all these different ideas and ways it could create income and it was just like no, no, everything just did not resonate. It was not the right fit. And I was kind of frustrated and discouraged. And one day I was sitting in the truck with my husband and we just pulled into the house and I was just crying out to God I'm like God give me something to show me what to do. Give me an idea. And he gave me in that moment, the name of The Nourishing Cupcake and it gave me this inspired business idea that like lit me up and I was super excited about it. Well, the first thing I did was I had to sit down and write out my why I had to kind of write out my pros and cons because actually at this time, I had applied and received a position where I could work hourly from home. You know on my own terms, it was a cool little gig. But the cool thing is that I would be paid hourly so I was guaranteed to make money for the time I put in. Or I could pursue this wildcard of a business, this entrepreneurial situation with this inspired idea that I had. And I needed clarity so I kind of wrote out my pros and cons wrote out my why. And in that process, I chose entrepreneurship over the job and I'm so thankful because what an awesome journey it has been and what an awesome business it still is today.

But I've clung to this list so this list I wrote my why I've clung to this and I've gone back to it time and time again. Because business is hard. It is up and it is down. I wrote a whole I did a whole episode on this recently go back to Episode 15 It was how to ride the roller coaster of entrepreneurship without getting sick so that all encourage you. If you are feeling like you are just on a ride. We all are but it doesn't have to be too crazy. Doesn't have to be too crazy. But listen, you won't make it you'll end up quitting if you don't have strong reasons if you don't know your why. And I'll tell you another one of my businesses just recently this just about a year ago, I was at a crossroads. I had been here before because this is common in business. So I had been at this place where I was like I think I'm ready to quit. I don't know if this is worth it. I don't know if this is worth the time worth the sacrifice. I'm not making the progress at the pace that I want to. Is this even working? You question everything. And I sat again I was in the trunk with my husband. It's so funny. And I was really struggling and wrestling with like, is this worth it to keep going Should I quit? Am I doing the right thing for my family? And my husband is such a great provider. And you know for me I'm not a super money motivated person. There's always so many different reasons on my list of why I mean, of course money is always one of them and it should be a good reason to gotta what you're doing and investing into it's gotta produce income or you're really just working for a hobby you know, really want to make sure you're being productive there but it can't be the only reason if money is your reason why then, good luck with that. It's got to be more it's got to be deeper than that. So money was not my big motivator and my husband he loves me so much selfishly he would just love me to just he probably just be like just be all my baby like I just want you all to myself. You don't have to work a day in your life. Like just let it all go just be a wife and a mom and whatever. But he loves me more and he knows my heart and he knows the call that God has on my life and he was like No, you can't quit like he encouraged me to keep going.

It's those moments where we question everything that we reaffirm and go deeper with our why why we're doing what we're doing because they say that the door to success and failure are right next door. And the truth is is that they're closer than you know they're closer than you think so maybe you're in a spot right now where you're feeling like I am ready to throw in the towel. I am done here. I'm giving it one more chance. I don't know if this is making a difference. I just want you to know you're probably closer to a breakthrough, then you know, and what happened for me in this situation. So here I am. I'm in the truck. I'm wrestling I'm kind of ready to quit, but at that moment, I was like, You know what? My husband and I were on the same page. We're in unity here. I have my reasons why I'm going to reaffirm that I'm going to go deeper and I'm going to keep going well six weeks later, I hit my best milestone month ever if you will in one month with one product alone. I did like $25,000 or more of sales. And it was really a phenomenal mountain top moment for me because it felt like oh my gosh, all this work I've put in finally is paying off I'm finally seeing this breakthrough that I wanted but I wouldn't have made it to that moment and felt how awesome it was to accomplish that rank and that goal. If I had quit just weeks prior.

Your why will expand as you go and clarity comes by taking action going. Most recently, I had to write up my wife for a whole nother thing. I did some blood work found out that I've got some major food sensitivities and allergies that I did not realize that I had it was causing some other symptoms. So I'm on this real strict kind of elimination diet and I got my plan I kind of could see based off the blood work. These are the things I can eat. These are the things I can eat. And I realized oh man, this this is going to be hard. This is going to take sacrifice. This is going to take some self discipline. self discipline is hard and we cannot look to our feelings to be our guide. So I needed to know my why for eating this way and making this lifestyle change for a season I needed to attach purpose with my work and with the sacrifices that I was going to make. So for my health reasons I wrote out why why is this a good thing? Why am I going to do this? Because I need that strength to stand on so that I can stay committed and learn patience and self discipline in the process.

Writing your why is good for so many different things. Even I'll tell you even just a few days ago, I wrote out a list of reasons why when I was looking to actually do an educational course. I was trying to figure out would this be a wise investment of money and time? Will this be valuable to help me accomplish what God is working in my life? wrote out why? The reasons that he was impressing me and my heart writing your why to serve so many different purposes. And it helps you filter out the emotions as you make decisions. So I hope that you can see from a few examples here how important this is not just for business, but in all areas of life. You've got to know why you're doing what you're doing and you need to know before you even start. more clarity and depth will come over time like I mentioned, but don't even start until you have this foundation to stand on. Know your why. But also understand and consider the season that you're in. If you have just had a baby like yesterday, it's probably just the season to hold that baby and a love on that child. If you have a lot of littles at home maybe it's that season just to focus on raising your kids and helping them develop healthy habits and helping them get good structure and security and discipline and love and and just getting your home in order. Either are different seasons of life. And so just doing your season it's important because what you do and why you do it will change from time to time. But these are this is why you just have to go to the Lord always and ask Him about everything. Anytime you do something new or different. It's gonna be challenging and real solid reasons why are going to give you the courage to continue when the going gets tough.

Okay, number two. The second tip I want to give you is to define success with God. You got to set some specific goals and ask yourself some key questions. So one of the things you got to ask yourself is how much money do I make? What are your financial goals? When are you going to start a new business? Specifically talking about business here? What are your goals? You want to make some extra cash that you can pay for your kid to go to this camp this summer. Do you want to pay for your daughter's ballet classes? Do you want to make a couple $1,000 and cover the mortgage every month you want to cover the electric bill? Do you just want some cash to spend on you or on the things you want? What is your why? What are your financial goals? Be specific and get clarity on this? Another question is ask yourself how much time am I willing to commit daily and you decide you've got to commit. Everything takes time. And you've just got to commit to that process. It takes work. It takes dedication. It takes consistency and you've got to decide that you're going to prioritize your time to commit to reaching your goals. How long am I willing to put in to get to my goal so how long are you willing to so for example, if you are going to commit two hours a day to working your business or for that goal. How long are you going to work two hours a day to get to your goal? How long are you going to commit for that? Your attitude? If you're just like, Oh, I'm just gonna a lot of people go into business. I've noticed this a lot. A lot of people go into business, especially network marketing, because I think that they think that just because it's this kind of business in a box where it's almost handed to you on a platter that it's just going to be easy and it's actually not so if you're in the network marketing industry and you think, Oh, I'm going to do this business because it's so easy. It's all been done for me. Yes, a lot has been done for you. You are set up to have a simple sustainable business model, but it doesn't mean that it's going to be easy. It actually doesn't because it is still entrepreneurship, you're still growing and developing something and it's gonna take a lot of pushing out of your comfort zone and a lot of courage and a lot of risk and just all the fields are going to go into it you've got to commit.

So if you were doing a business and you're like I'm going to commit a couple hours a day, how long are you going to do that? So if your attitude is I'm just gonna do it for a couple months. Try it out, see what I think see how it feels. See if I like it. That's that's great. But just to be clear, you're really wanting a hobby. You can certainly play around have some fun and test the waters but if you're serious about reaching your goals, if you've got your why established and you're serious about reaching your goals, personally, professionally financially, and you want to effectively develop a business. You've got to decide to commit the time and to give it time I think that six months minimum to three years is a great commitment to see what you can really make happen. Patience and grace is key here. And I'm going to say that again for myself. Patience, and grace is key because I think that in business especially again, I'm just thinking of network marketing. We just think that it just should happen faster than it does. And it's just a process. I will tell you, there is no such thing as an overnight success story. And sometimes I wanted because it seems like we see those people in our lives. They're like oh my gosh, they just everything they touch turns to gold and it just happened so easy for them. It happened so fast for them. Well, it's just not true. There are milestone moments that only come because of all the seeds planted and the steps taken along the way. It may appear when we look at somebody else's life potentially that the fruit is all ripe at the same time. That it just came fast and easy for them. Let me tell you that seed was planted that tree was was planted and watered and cultivated long before ever for fruit. A lot went into it to get to the point of accomplishment. Bearing an abundance of fruit. It takes time and it's really, like I said it's the abundance of the work that has come before that. So don't be confused or discouraged when it just feels like it's taking too much time depending on the goal that you have. Set your specific goals and ask yourself the key questions accordingly to what you need and to where you're at. I think it's a great attitude to have that I will not quit until I succeed. Again you define what success is so you define what success is going to be to you. But once you have that clarity once you have your reasons why you've got to decide like I'm not going to quit until I succeed, whatever that looks like to you. All the action that you take is always going to support and align with your vision your why but you want self confidence as an entrepreneur.

One tip one really, really crucial strategy is to never break a promise to yourself. Whatever you decide to do whatever you commit, no matter how small it is. Keep your promises to yourself that being said, Remember that True Confidence comes from our identity in Christ. A lot of people call that God fit in and it is true it comes from identity in Christ. But on a practical level, we should set the habit of keeping our word to ourselves, even speaking kindly to ourselves. I catch this with my kids a lot of times because I can see them. I can see one of my kids sometimes when it comes to school or in different situations I can see him like in every part of his attitude, his posture, his position. He's like just beating himself up inside. Well, now you know what to get it as I just said he but anyways, I'm like, would you say the things that you're telling yourself? Would you tell this person that would you tell your best friend that would you tell your cousin that if you wouldn't say to them, don't say it to you. Be kind to yourself and keep your commitment to yourself? Whether it's what time you're going to get up in the morning what time you're gonna go to bed or if you're just going to make your bed whatever this small step is. Keep your promises and keep your commitment because you build a reputation with yourself that hey, I am who I say I am and I keep the promises and I'm a woman of my word and it builds confidence there. You know in life. A little things in life are actually the big things. And how you do anything is how you do everything. You'll be rewarded in public for what you do in private, so don't despise small beginnings or the small things that nobody sees. They do matter. work diligently with excellence and I have faith that your faithfulness will bear fruit in time.

Okay, and the third thing I want to mention, talking about developing a strong foundation for starting something new is develop your belief system invests into you. This is another podcast episode in itself but I want to bring this truth to light because you cannot grow a business beyond yourself. You will limit your potential if you don't commit to growing. I love that say I think it's usually used more specifically with network marketing. But let's just say entrepreneurship, but entrepreneurship is a self development program with a compensation plan attached. Truly is this is a growth journey and money follows but you cannot grow a business without intentionally developing your mindset, your skill sets without putting in the inner work. If not, you will be the thing that always holds you back. You won't have the fortitude the right attitude you won't have the grit it takes to take your goals from thought to reality if you don't work on your belief system, self development, it gives you perspective in the process. And business as we've talked about a million times I will just say it again because I think it's encouraging in some ways just to validate the reality that this takes a lot of courage. It takes a lot of resilience and work and you won't have the stamina or the strength to press on without submitting your heart and your mind to the process of growth. Listen, we've got to live for the long game should have a long term vision with whatever business with whatever tasks that we do.

My father-in-law used to say, what is the end of the conversation like in a different situation? He would be like what is the end of the conversation? What is the end goal we have keep the end in mind as we take the daily steps as we grow and evolve our business will evolve or even change over time. But it will always be worth it if we know our why. What you are doing now it's simply a brick in the wall of your life and brick by brick. You will do something great. You've got to have that mortar or the glue that will hold your progress together that will protect your progress and will stand the test of time that you can grow from knowing your why and developing your belief system allows your progress to hold so in faith in Christ, everything is meaningful. And each step leads to the next step. So wherever you're at, be all in with where you're at now be faithful with the little knowing that there is a bigger picture. YouTube videos, podcasts, books, whatever you need to do. Learn. Keep learning in the crevices of your day just commit to being a lifelong learner. And what's so cool about this is this is what's so beautiful about entrepreneurship again, one of those things is that we lead by example and our children need to see us always learning always growing, always trying new things so that they can become lifelong. Learners to that they can learn to read, learn to figure things out, learn to do new things. You don't have to keep repeating the same patterns because as you know better you can do better. So keep learning and out of that place of growth. You can keep giving a new fresh ways keep that movement flowing. Business is far more than the product that you sell or the service that you offer. It's more about who you become in the process.

This is the most valuable component. Out of your God given purpose you can impact others for greatness to self development. is essential as you develop business. Now I'm all about self development, learning from others developing new skills, strategies, looking at resources. However, I have learned that there are some major flaws in the quote, self development movement. And I just want to warn you, as a kingdom entrepreneur, that although personal growth is vital, should not be all rooted in self there's there's a fine line here and I'll try to explain but again, take this to the Lord because I think he wants to show you something I believe that as we as believers in Christ, we have to think differently. The world is all on the self development hype and there's so much focus on you. But what I found is that my intentions to grow and develop myself really and ended up with me being self absorbed, self consumed. Focusing on me, not giving the proper glory and the honor and the reverence to God. And I don't ever want to make that up. And so we've got to think differently as Kingdom entrepreneurs so that we can do things differently. And I just want to let you know that personal growth it needs to come out of knowing who you are in Christ rooted in truth. action is taken out of our identity. How can you overcome yourself if you're only looking at yourself? about it? You can't. You're gonna eventually burn out trying. You can only pull so much courage and find so many answers from yourself before you run dry. As a woman of faith, who is looking to be about God's business, because he's an everything. Looking within really simply means looking to God because He lives within. When we're digging deep. It's ultimately about pressing into more of God's power if he lives within you. So have clarity on that and know who your source is. To be so full of God that when we look to grow, his presence in our life takes precedence.

So self development one to one, seek God's presence, create space for more of his power in your life so that as you grow and develop yourself, it will ultimately come out of him. And you won't burn out and you won't grow weary because his yoke is easy and His burden is light. And I believe that He wants us to operate in his strength, not in our own strength. He wants us to be strong in the Lord and in the strength in his mind. He wants us to work out of a place of rest. And this has everything to do with the posture of our heart. So don't get caught up in the winds and the waves of the self development obsession. develop yourself but do it out of the right place. Build up your belief system and let your identity be found in Christ because this again, it gives you that true confidence that God buttons that we need in life and in business. We need the supernatural. We need the impossible. We need the extraordinary. We need all of it for the journey to move forward with our business and faith. So I always want to point you back to God because you're going to find true empowerment out of his presence. Nothing else. circumstances and seasons change challenges are usually unforeseen.

Think about how much this past year and all that COVID brought into the picture and the economy and how many things were thrown at you that you did not anticipate. So much happens and life can derail or distract you from making progress or from showing up as a person that you want to be. But it doesn't have to. You just have to. Maybe you slow down, maybe you speed up but if you have a strong foundation, and you solidify the things that we're just talking about today, you can keep going. So these are some of the strategies that are going to help you lay a foundation for success as you start that new endeavor to effectively grow and to stay in the game long term, brick by brick.

So just to kind of recap, know your why, define success and clarify your goals. And commit to your growth. Who you become in the process is far more important than what you're pursuing. So much of business is simply learning to get back up time and time again. I know this past year has been crazy. Maybe it's knocked you down but I'm here to tell you as a friend, get back up again. I love this quote from Les Brown. It says "when life knocks you down, try and land on your back." When I hear it I think of his voice. He's like "when life knocks you down, try and land on your back because if you can look up, you can get up. Let your reason get you back up." Let your reasons get you back up. Look to the Father Look up and I don't know where you're at or what discouragement you've experienced this past year but as a friend. I just want to push you I want to tell you want to pull you I want to grab your hand and tell you to get back up again. Get focused, get determined and follow these practical tactical steps to help you start fresh and to recommit to where you're going. where you're at now is not where you're going to go and you will get from here. To there. If you have that strong foundation, and above all, above all, you just kind of keep it simple and seek the presence of God in your life. His Spirit will give you the inspiration, the peace and the permission to move forward in faith. Your greatest success is in knowing him. Your greatest success. Friend is a knowing God and out of that place. You can change the world and make a difference. That difference that impact that your heart so yearn for, I believe in you. But don't forget where it all begins. It begins within and begins with submitting and surrendering your heart to the Father and seeking His presence. There's nothing else more important in this journey.

So Father God, I just pray for the mom listening today that you would just light up her spirit today, Lord, if she feels down as she feels stuck if she feels stagnant. I pray that you would just encourage her lift her up God lift her up and hold her close, put her feet on solid ground and give her the courage and the clarity to move forward. Help her to know her "Why" Lord as she partners with you as she consult with you about everything, Lord, as she works in relationship with you in her business, in her health goals, in her marriage goals with her children's education with whatever she is looking to do. Whatever she is looking to grow and I pray that you would just give her the clarity and the reasons why. Connect the purpose, your purpose for her with the work of her hands God so that together she can accomplish great things, Lord. Lord, give her the clarity, the confidence, the reasons why and just the persistence to keep growing and to never give up to never quit on herself no matter what she would never ever quit on herself. Because you believe in her God, that she would cling to who you say that she is God and I thank you that she does not have a spirit of fear God but that you have given her spirit of power and of love and a sound mind. I just pray your peace over her today and that she would move forward empowered with your blessing and anointing in her life. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
